Privacy and data security
At SAO, your right to privacy and data security is a primary concern. Below are the guidelines we use for protecting the information you provide us during a visit to this web site. The SAO does not collect any unauthorized business-related information from users browsing its web site. Any information we collect is provided by you.

SAO only asks for specific types of personal information.
We collect primarily business-related information to help us serve our members. This includes your name, title, business mailing address, business phone number and business fax number. The SAO will never give out your email address.

Other than the foregoing, the SAO does not solicit nor collect other personal information such as home addresses, home phone numbers or home e-mail accounts, except from those specifically requesting home or home office correspondence.

For example, we request information from you when you:

• Subscribe to our monthly newsletter, monthly program calendar or specific program emails
• Register for programs or events online
• Request benefits information
• Request sponsorship or membership information
• Update your industry directory listing
• Update your company membership information
• Order publications
  

In each of the instances above, users are asked to provide some limited information, including their name, job title, company, type of company, company size, business address, business phone, fax and e-mail. Users who choose to provide the SAO with their credit card account numbers to make payments also provide the billing address associated with the credit card. In the case of specific email lists or newsletters, all of our electronic communications have an opt out option clearly designated if you wish to be removed at any time.

Your information may be shared with agents or contractors of SAO for the purpose of performing services for SAO. On occasion, your information may also be shared with other non-profit organizations and educational institutions to promote programs of interest to the industry. Sponsors of SAO programs receive program attendee’s names and addresses on mailing labels only. Your email address will never be shared.

Internet Commerce
The online registration process at sao.org is designed to give you privacy of your credit card information, name, address, e-mail and any other information you provide us. We offer security measures with Verisign Security. If at any time you would like to make a purchase, but do not want to provide your credit card information online, you may call to purchase or register, 503-228-5401. It has always been a SAO practice to contact customers in the event of a potential problem with your purchase or any normal business communication regarding your purchase or registration

Third-Party Sites
Please be aware that other web sites you may access through our site may collect personally identifiable information about you. The information practices of those third-party web sites linked to sao.org are not covered by this privacy statement, nor do we accept responsibility for the privacy practices of these sites.

SAO Industry Directory
The SAO invites members to provide company-related information for one of the SAO’s key publications, "The Software Industry Directory". Those companies that choose to update or provide company information are included in the Directory. Those companies who choose not to provide information can request to omit or limit their listing. We also make a limited version of the publication available as an online searchable directory. The SAO makes it clear to all companies listed in the Industry Directory that it is widely distributed in hard copy format and that it is also accessible online.

How Does the SAO Ensure Compliance with its Privacy Policy?
Access to the SAO’s network resources is limited to SAO employees and to authorized contractors. All site information is stored and housed behind a firewall. No outside persons or computers have permission to enter through this firewall. All SAO staff and authorized contractors must have special permission and passwords to access the database from behind the firewall.
