SAO Announces Annual Member Dinner on February 24th – Bill Weihl of Google to Keynote

PORTLAND, OR - The Software Association of Oregon (SAO) is happy to announce the return of the SAO’s Annual Member Dinner. Presented by telecom leader XO Communications, this gala event is anticipated to be one of the biggest in Oregon’s tech community this year. Scheduled for the evening of February 24, 2010, the dinner is one of three annual social events held by the SAO and is expected to draw guests from across the state. The theme for the night is "Innovation” and will feature a special Keynote address from Bill Weihl, Green Energy Czar at Google. Weihl leads Google’s energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, and also manages the company's greenhouse-gas footprint. He is an experienced technologist, entrepreneur, and committed environmentalist with deep and broad experience in computer science.
"Efficiency efforts and investments in clean energy have spurred innovation in the computer technology community but we need to devote even more resources to really create breakthrough technologies and affordable renewable energy at utility-scale,” said Weihl.
"Having someone of Bill’s stature at our event is a testament to Oregon’s position as a technology hub and SAO’s stature as a dynamic part of this state’s active tech community,” said Matt Nees, President of the SAO, "One of SAO’s most valuable offerings is our ability to bring together the people and ideas that will make a difference.”
"This is a unique opportunity and an important night for the tech community in Oregon,” said David Childers, CEO of EthicsPoint and Vice-Chair of the SAO Board of Directors. "This is just one more example of SAO organizing activities that help strengthen Oregon’s tech community.
The SAO’s Annual Member Dinner will be held in the Montgomery Park Atrium on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 and is limited to current members and their guests. Tickets are $100.
