Part Entrepreneur / Part Corporate Executive - New President Ideal Choice As SAO Solidifies Its Leading Role In Identifying & Securing Opportunities For State’s Diverse Tech Community
PORTLAND, Oregon, - The Software Association of Oregon (SAO) today announced that it has selected Matthew Nees as the organization’s new president. With a diverse technology background – both as an entrepreneur and as an executive at several leading technology corporations – Nees brings vital experience to SAO at a time when the organization is taking a leading role as advocates for Oregon’s diverse technology community.
Prior to taking on his new position as SAO president, Nees was founder and CEO of StickIt Communications, a marketing and communications agency specializing in small and mid-size businesses. He is also president and founder of Wintre’s Wishes Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on combating child sex abuse in Oregon.
Before founding his own marketing firm, Nees held executive-level positions at several leading technology companies including Xerox, Hewlett Packard and Intel.
"Oregon’s technology community includes a full spectrum of businesses – from innovative start-up companies working out of garages and small offices to some of the largest technology companies in the world,” said Scott Kveton, SAO’s past interim president and board member. "SAO is the one technology-based organization in the state focused on bringing these diverse groups together. Nees’s extraordinary background will be invaluable in helping SAO reach out and meet the needs of all technology companies, big and small alike.”
"As the organization’s president, I will focus on building a strong connection between technology professionals throughout Oregon’s business community,” said Nees. "With the expertise and assistance of this extraordinary group, SAO will fortify its leading role in driving opportunities for economic growth and stability during these tough economic times.”
In recent months, the Software Association of Oregon took a leading role in helping the Governor’s office identify federal stimulus spending projects. It has also facilitated the creation and support of the state’s clean technology alliance and served as a key sponsor of Oregon’s largest technology exposition.
Nees graduated in 1995 from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration-Marketing. He is an avid OSU Beaver fan and loves spending time with his family in the outdoors, hiking, camping, snowshoeing and biking.
