Portland, Ore. – The Software Association of Oregon (SAO), the primary trade organization for Oregon industry driven by software, announced today it has named Scott Kveton interim president effective immediately. Kveton, a Portland-based software industry executive who has served on the SAO’s board since January 2009, has agreed to act as president until a permanent hire is made.
"After a careful search by a special committee comprising SAO Board members, it was clear the best possible candidate to guide the organization during our formal search for a president is Scott Kveton,” said Michael Phillips, chairman of the SAO board and a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. "Scott is passionate about the mission of the organization and brings valuable local software industry experience to the post.”
Kveton has spent the past 12 years building technology, developing business strategy and leading teams with companies such as Amazon.com, Rulespace, JanRain and Vidoop. While working at Oregon State University, Kveton co-founded the Open Source Lab, fostering the evolution to mainstream usage of open source projects like Mozilla, Linux, Apache and Drupal. Scott was named to Red Herring’s list of "25 Titans in Waiting” in early 2007 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Oregon State University.
"The SAO is a great organization with tremendous potential to spur further growth and success of the software industry in Oregon and the region,” said Kveton. "My roots among the local independent software developer community run deep; as the SAO’s interim president, I hope to provide a bridge between this community and the more established software players in the area.” More about Kveton’s goals as interim president can be found at his blog.
Kveton will temporarily resign his SAO board seat while fulfilling the duties of the organization’s presidency. The SAO hopes to make a permanent hire within ninety days, after which Kveton will resume his board position.
